civil documents (ID Cards, Birth certificates, Marriage Certificates) Helping Batwa finding the civil documents
Not possessing civil documents prevent many Batwa from claiming social and political rights. National ID and birth certificates are the documents that confer Burundian citizenship. All other documents are distributed to applicants who have their national ID and birth certificates. In the same vein, there are free services available for Burundian citizens that can not be accessed without presenting an ID. It is with the ultimate objective of granting a National ID to Batwa of Burundi that ASSEJEBA, with the financial support of USA Embassy in Burundi and African Road standing proceeded to monitoring and reporting all cases of people who had no National ID, birth certificates and marriage licenses and thus give all those documents to all Batwa people living in seven villages.
